Freedom Is An Internal Journey, Not The Absence of External Turmoil

“So Christ has really set us free. Now make sure that you stay free,
and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.”

Galatians 5:1 (NLT)

MARCH 2 - Tacky blood dribbled down his stolid face, dotting his muscular forearm with tiny scarlet points. Nonetheless, the strapping middleaged man did not flinch. His ear was now pierced, proof positive that
he rejected the freedom that was dutifully offered him. Biblical law uniquely required that his ear be pierced with an awl if, after six years of servitude, a slave refused to be liberated and decided to remain permanently
with his master. He made the decision inwardly, therefore, an outward sign was needed to demonstrate that decision to the world—he chose not to become free.

This principle must be totally understood in order for us to be freed spiritually, financially, emotionally, and physically. Freedom does not happen from the outside in, but from the inside out. God clearly called us to walk in this divine freedom. However, we cannot obtain true freedom unless we focus on changing what lies on the inside, before ever attempting to change what’s on the outside. Solomon wisely exhorts, “Above all else guard your heart, for from it spring the issues of life.” Then the apostle Paul states, “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

God gave us His Word, the divine handbook of life. We are to fill our hearts and renew our minds with its substance. As we sow the seed of God’s Word into our minds, we experience the freedom Jesus purchased
for us on the cross. Jesus said, “Continue in My Word, and you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” I desire to walk freely, and I believe you do too. Freedom begins with His Word.
