Never Embrace Anyone Who Is Not Able To Give You A Promotion

“Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God.”
Colossians 3:22 (NKJV)

MAY 28 - What is God’s will for us in the workplace? Have you yet realized that He wants you to clearly understand the way His Kingdom works within a structure of authority? After that, God wants you to eagerly pursue pleasing the authority over you in the workplace. He wants a smile to come to that person’s face every time he or she thinks of you.

At the time of Jesus’ birth, Caesar Augustus was in power. The term “Augustus” means revered, a title that the Romans previously used only for their gods. Without a doubt, all the citizens of the empire deeply respected their ruler, soldiers, masters, and superiors.

Are you criticized when you try to please your superiors? Yes, you often are. However, you are only criticized by the people who have stopped their forward progress. In time, you will grow out of those critical relationships if you are willing to endure it. You can look forward to being celebrated in time to come by those who are interested in your promotion.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I look to please those who can bring Your promotion into my life. I thank You that You make me sensitive to their needs, wants, and desires.

The Genuine Servant Welcomes The Opportunity To Prove His Authenticity

“Investigate my life, O God, find out everything about me; cross-examine and test me, get a clear picture of what I’m about; see for Yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong—then guide me on the road to eternal life.”
Psalm 139:23-24 (MESSAGE)

MARCH 20 - Genuine servants have nothing to hide. They are not interested in any selfish gain, nor do they wear their feelings on their sleeves. Rather, they set aside their personal agenda to become whatever is necessary for the one they serve. At first, this way of thinking is very difficult to conceive. Thoughts like: “But what about me?” and “I’m not a slave!” wrestle with a person’s decision to become a servant. In time, though, a genuine servant develops a heart that really desires the best for the one being served, regardless of the personal sacrifice involved.

If we truly are servants, then no task requires more than we can bestow. Whatever it takes, that’s what we will do. In Psalm 139, the Psalmist makes himself entirely vulnerable to God. This request comes from a confident and humble heart. Confidence because he did everything he knew to do, humility because he was willing to learn what he didn’t know about himself. A genuine servant must develop these virtues as he searches for an authentic seal of approval.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that You search me and know me through and through. Create inside of me all that is pleasing to You.

Offense Is Never Allowed To Enter Into The Life Of A Servant

“Then David stood at the mouth of the cave and called to Saul, ‘My master! My king!’ Saul looked back. David fell to his knees and bowed in reverence. He called out, ‘Why do you listen to those who say ‘David is out to get you’? This very day with your very own eyes you have seen that just now in the cave God put you in my hands. My men wanted me to kill you, but I wouldn’t do it. I told them that I won’t lift a finger against my master—he’s God’s anointed.’”
1 Samuel 24:8-10 (MESSAGE)

MARCH 19 - What could possibly be a greater reason to get offended than being hunted by the one you are trying to serve? David gave his life for the king’s service—he served faithfully in the army and loyally in the
palace. In everything he did, his heart was toward Saul, and for Saul’s prosperous reign. Never did he see himself as the one who should be king in Saul’s place, though he knew very well that such would be the case one day. He entrusted himself to the hand of God, who always judges justly, and who sets kings on thrones or removes them from power.

While in the wilderness, the Jews were in constant offense. Sometimes it was Moses. Sometimes it was their environment. And most often it was God. They literally breathed an atmosphere of wretched offense.

Do you or I have any reason to get offended in light of what David endured? Have we left our family and all our desires for another’s sake? And have we, in turn, been hunted for our death? Of course not! What kept David from being offended with Saul? It was his purity of heart—he wanted what was best for the king, not what he could get from the king. If we develop that heart toward the people around us, especially our superiors, we won’t have further bouts with offense.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I love Your Word and I do not get offended. I develop a servant’s heart so that I am always free from the offense of others.
