Excellence Is The Antidote Used To Stop The Deadly Disease Called Mediocrity

“Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men.”
Proverbs 22:29 (NKJV)

JUNE 17 - While mediocrity of spirit plagued the scribes and chief priests in Jerusalem as they ignored the Messiah’s birth, the Wise Men of the East paid attention to the spark that lit the Middle-Eastern air. A priestly class, most likely from the region of Persia, they lived in spiritual excellence—potently able to interpret dreams, blessed with supernatural visitations. Mediocrity cruelly infects all of mankind. In our contemporary culture, there is a magnetic pull towards mediocrity. People foolishly attempt to get by in life with the attitude of “just good enough.” That mentality eventually debilitates a person’s potential. The moment we do not press forward, we move backward. We must  continually rise above the temptation to accept the status quo.

The individual who does not desire to excel is deceived into thinking that going further is not worth the effort. However, God wants more for us. The desire to excel is really the desire for a fuller, richer, and more abundant life, which stems from God. When God enters a life, He deposits a relentless desire for betterment. Many quickly reject that desire, either because they have been taught conversely or because they consciously choose laziness.

Nevertheless, we must give our attention to principles of excellence. As in our example of the Wise Men of the East, people of excellence are tools God uses to influence kings and great men across the entire globe. If we neglect to become more, we reject our duty to allow God to express Himself through us.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am a person who excels in my work. I will stand before great men and kings. I continually press forward to a fuller, enriched life that glorifies You.

Improvement Is Guaranteed To Those Who Are Williing To Make Even The Slightest Change

“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,”
Hebrews 12:1 (NKJV)

JUNE 16 - The air was different in Palestine…lighter, friendlier, and more joyful. A magnificent improvement was happening to the people of Israel, a new Force was silently stirring among the people. During the time that Israel had been held captive by the Babylonians, idolatry cursed the Jews. But now, the Sabbath day was kept, the synagogues were filled, the Scriptures were read, and the rabbis were heard. Most Jews had been willing to change, but who would they now follow — the Sadducees, the Pharisees, or the Herodians? No doubt, Mary pondered meekly inside her heart: Will they eventually embrace the changes that my young Son will bring?

Unless you embrace the process of change, you will not grow. All significant change begins when you make the choice to dismantle the weights of life that hinder you from achieving your dreams. Those weights come in all different forms: wrong relationships, laziness, procrastination, negative attitude, mediocrity,  tagnation, and apathy. Letting go of these weights is not exciting, but the rewards of doing so definitely are.

Positive change is not as automatic as the washing machine in your laundry room. Change, you see, is a decision. It’s not an easy task, but those who make the choice never regret it. The Jews who eventually received the change of Jesus Christ were never the same. Once you decide what you want and who you want to become, relentlessly pursue the necessary change.
