Your Actions Are A Photograph Of Your Values

“So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”
Luke 14:33 (NKJV)

JUNE 7 - “That sunset is so beautiful I just had to take a picture!” Scanning the horizon, centering the camera, “click,” the photograph was in her memory, a picture of that gorgeous action of God. Having securely saved it, now it would be irrefutable proof for posterity of His value of beauty.

Jesus also has irrefutable proof of what we truly value in life by looking at our actions. He calls everyone to choose how they invest their time, proving their internal values. And here is how He determines the value He has in the eyes of others. He says, “Whoever does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.” The moment we forsake everything—that is, every desire that conflicts with God’s way of doing and being right—to follow Jesus, is the moment we prove we treasure Christ above everything else.

We cannot deny that our actions reveal our true values. We cannot say we value health yet live a lazy, gluttonous lifestyle. We cannot say we value our spouse, yet ignore him or her. We value what we do, not
what we think we do. If you are at a place in your life where your actions do not prove what you want to value, then you must reconsider how and where you spend your time. As we keep our values before
our eyes, our actions cannot help but correspond. Above all, we can prove that we value Christ through obeying His Word and by spending quality time in His presence.

Daily Confession

Father, I choose to forsake all, proving I value a relationship with You above anything the world has to offer. I imitate You and live a life of love, just as Christ loved me and gave Himself for me.

Your Values Of Today Will Determine Your Future Of Tomorrow

“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today…and all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you…”
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (NKJV)

JUNE 1 - You can try for several days, but you probably won’t find this perfume at your local shopping mall. Myrrh, a well-known gum resin extracted from the Arabian Balsamodendron Myrrha, was used as an exquisite perfume, an ingredient for holy anointing oil, as well as for embalming. It was one of Christ’s material rewards following His birth, and an overwhelming prophecy of His future. God’s Word contains principles that when applied, cause one to experience a life of blessings. Although each of us desires to be blessed, few accurately apply God’s principles to their lives. We must be willing to do what God said if we
expect to experience what God promised. Remember, God never promised us a reward without first  completing an instruction.

God is a God who loves to reward! That is what He loves to do. But He does not hand out an I.O.U. to just anyone. He is very selective in who He blesses. We determine whether or not God rewards us. God made this very clear in Deuteronomy 28. Our future is only as bright as the principles we embrace. What a powerful principle! We are responsible for the outcome of our future. What God desires, and what actually happens, may not always align. There is a reason for it, and God is not the problem. Although God desires to bless all of us, He can only do so upon our obedience. The principles by which we live starkly determine the future we experience. Whatever future we desire, we must faithfully apply the principles to bring fruitful results.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am diligent to heed Your voice and act upon the principles outlined in Your Word.

The Standard - CD

A standard is an object that defines, represents, or records potential. It is a decree or level of requirement, excellence, or attainment. Simply put, it is the yardstick against which we measure or lives.

As believers, our standard is the cross of Jesus Christ. The defining factor of our life is the sacrifice Jesus made at Calvary. Jesus overcame temptation and defeated the enemy making it possible for us to do the same. He set a standard and became a representation of our potential.

As we model our character after the character of Jesus and model our lives in accordance with the Word of God, we become able to overcome temptation and defeat the enemy just like Jesus did. Be instructed and inspired through this powerful teaching by Linda Thompson. God’s Word and the victory of the cross can be the defining standard of your life!

You’re Either A Prisoner To Your Past Or A Pioneer Of Your Future

“Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 3:13-14 (NKJV)

June 1 - With the advent of the Messiah, every individual of Jewish ancestry either remains a prisoner of their religious past, or through Jesus, becomes a pioneer of a God-planned future. Which is it for you: Will you allow the enemy to imprison you to your past, or will you put on the armor of God and fight for the future God promised you? Just because we are saved doesn’t mean we are guaranteed a good future. We are promised a future, but so were the children of Israel. They were presented with the Promised Land but never entered it because they were prisoners of their past.

Put yourself in the shoes of an eighteen-year-old who just graduated from high school. Your wealthy uncle comes and informs you that he would like to pay for your college education (all four years). Wouldn’t you be excited? Sure you would. That is exactly what God did for us. He gave us salvation free of charge, without having to do anything to acquire it. But just because you have a scholarship to college doesn’t mean you are exempt from attending a variety of classes, doing hours of homework, and studying for final exams. Unless you are diligent to do those things, you won’t make it through all four years.

In the same way, God delivered you from your past and promised you a great future. But unless you put in the time to mediate on His Word, go to church, love people, and obey Him, you won’t possess that great future. It remains true: You’re either a prisoner to your past, or a pioneer of your future.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I forget the things behind and reach forward to those ahead.

You Change Your life By Changing Your Choices

“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap.”
Galatians 6:7 (NKJV)

APRIL 24 - How does one ever begin to change their choices? Well, it is largely determined by one’s outlook or perspective on life. The way you think about yourself and the world in which you live is key to your success.

One of the greatest truths ever written was penned by King Solomon. He stated, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he….” Because of one man, an eccentric Englishman, Captain Orde C. Wingate, Moshe Dayan’s perspective would be forever altered. An intelligence officer sent to Palestine to suppress skirmishes between the Arabs and Jews, Captain Wingate began training the Haganah, teaching them fundamental night tactics and sharing his expertise on military strategy—the unrivaled value of surprise and speed. Volunteering for Captain Wingate’s “Special Night Squads” (the SNS), Moshe Dayan was made second in command at age 22. By changing his outlook via the guidance of Captain Wingate, Dayan’s actions automatically followed, initiating a plan for future success as he began envisioning victory at every turn.

It doesn’t matter if other people see you as a success. How do you see yourself? You will never obtain God’s will in your life until you see yourself as God sees you. As you change the way you think, your actions automatically follow. Case in point: The reason so few people explored the New World was because they erroneously believed the earth was flat. Why would you take the time to explore if you believed the earth was flat? You see, their beliefs governed their actions. But there was a man who believed otherwise, and his actions followed suit. That man gallantly discovered the New World because he believed beyond all doubt the earth indeed was round.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am not deceived. You cannot be mocked. Whatever I sow I certainly reap.

Life Is Built By A Series Of Choices; Not A Series Of Chances

“I call Heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.”
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV)

APRIL 9 - So you probably thought that life in ancient Israel was drab and colorless, without the flash of contemporary fabrics? Well…nothing could be farther from the truth! God’s children only needed to stretch
out their hands into nature, pleasantly encountering diverse choices for their garments and homes. Faces, clothing, walls—each were blank canvases of distinctive choice.

Different choices take you down different paths. Wrong choices take you down rock-ridden, destructive paths; right choices take you down delightful, melodious paths. You can wait for life to make your choices for you (most of which will be wrong), or you can intentionally choose to become who you were destined to become. Yes, that choice involves a great deal of change, which isn’t always as fun as the ancient Israeli color chart. Nevertheless, through it all, there is a pervading delight because of the promised outcome of such changes.

Once you become willing to do whatever it takes to win in life, nothing can hold you back—not overwhelming pressures, not spiteful criticisms, nor adverse circumstances, all of which are assigned to trap
you in the sticky mire of mediocrity. The fulfillment of your destiny rests as a blank canvas of choice awaiting the decision of your selective hands.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that You set before me life and death, blessing and cursing. I choose life that I and those I love may experience life as You desire it.

Poverty Is Not The Lack Of Money; Poverty Is The Proof Of Misguided Money

“It is possible to give freely and become more wealthy, but those who are stingy will lose everything.”
Proverbs 11:24 (NLT)

MARCH 22 - For some time, the body of Christ has identified poverty with lack of money. Just because you don’t have money doesn’t mean you are impoverished. Many times, the lack of money or what is known as
poverty is the result of years of someone misguiding their money. Those who are obedient to sow their money always tend to have more. God is a God of abundance, and He has insight as to where we should sow.

I remember years ago, when I was a young boy, hearing a conversation between my mother and father. My father inquired of my mother, “What should we buy—beer or bread?” At that time, we didn’t have enough money for both, so they had to choose between beer and bread. My mother responded, “Let’s buy beer.” It wasn’t that my parents didn’t have money. They just used their money in the wrong way. God calls us to give a tenth to our church. He calls us to feed the poor and help those less fortunate, and to sow into the lives of others for the good they did in our lives. The moment we begin to follow these instructions is when our days of lack are over. When we focus our money in the right direction, money increases. We reap only what we sow. If we don’t sow anything, we have no right to expect a harvest. How do you spend your money? Do you see it as a seed, or simply money? Do you generously give it, or do you hoard it? Does it go toward the things of God, or toward fulfilling the lusts of your flesh? Where your money goes determines whether you walk in abundance or in poverty. Poverty is not the lack of money; poverty is the proof of misguided money. The choice is yours.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am a giver. I generously scatter abroad, and I increase more. I refuse to withhold knowing it will lead to lack.

You’re Future Is Only As Bright As The Future You Embrace

“Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God.”
Deuteronomy 28:1-2 (NKJV)

MARCH 1 - They all qualified—but only a handful served. All males were deemed competent to serve as judges in civil matters, but only priests, Levites, and Israelites of principle—those with spotless character and ancestry—were eligible to judge a criminal case. Christianity eagerly embraces the person of Christ, but ruefully neglects His principles. The person of Jesus creates your peace; His principles create your productivity. Both are as necessary as soil and seed!

People greatly aspire to prosper, but why are so few willing to accurately apply God’s principles to their lives? Our willingness to do what God says is the key to experiencing what God promises.

God never promised you something without first giving you an instruction. Always rewarding the obedient, He never hands out random promises and rewards like candy at a parade. God is selective in whom He blesses. And you and I determine whether or not God blesses us.

The qualifications of Israel’s judges were simple yet distinctive — thorough knowledge of the Law and an ethical lifestyle. Therefore, this principle stands historically correct: Your future is only as bright as the principles you embrace. Apply His principles today and watch God move on your behalf.

Father, I thank You that I diligently obey Your Word and observe Your commandments. Your blessings come upon me and overtake me because I choose to obey You.

You Must Choose Today How You Will Respond Tomorrow

“…choose today whom you will serve.”
Joshua 24:15 (NLT)

JANUARY 22 - Perhaps the most documented missionary of the 19th century was David Livingstone, born into a poor, yet devout, Scottish family. Though he deeply yearned for an education, David was sent to work
in a cotton mill at age 10. Instead of self-pity, with his first wages, David made the right choice to purchase a book of Latin grammar, thereby beginning his sought-after schooling on his own. Eventually able to study theology and medicine, he subsequently served God in Africa for 30 years. If you haven’t noticed already, life doesn’t always deal us the hand we want. I have three important questions to ask:

  • How will you respond to tomorrow’s setbacks?
  • How will you respond to an adverse situation on the job?
  • How will you respond to your spouse’s poor attitude?

You’re bound to make a bad decision if you wait until the situation arises. Poor decisions are made as a result of inordinate pressure in our lives. For example, you must make a decision tonight to pray tomorrow
morning. If you wait until you feel like it, you may never get around to actually doing it. Why allow your flesh to keep you from making the right decisions? Choose today how you will respond tomorrow. Follow the example of Dr. Livingstone by never permitting the pressures of life to dictate how you respond. Commit yourself to God’s Word and make the choice to obey it, regardless of the cost or situation.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that today is the day I choose life and blessings.
I thank You for giving me the wisdom and discipline in my decision making process. I make the right choices today that guarantee a great future.
