MAY 4 - Your focus profoundly determines your life’s direction. Ascertain what you would like to do, and focus precisely upon that objective, like a bullet to its target. And as we have so prolifically seen over these past few days, General Moshe Dayan intently focused upon the freedom of Israel since the time of his pre-teenage days. Nothing deterred him—not prison, nor a missing eye, nor the death of his only brother, Zohar, who was killed in the 1948 War of Independence. Undoubtedly, General Dayan knew that an idle mind becomes a negative mind. That is the reason it is so important to focus on God’s Word and His will for your life.

What have you focused on lately? I personally have found it to be true, not only in my life but in the lives of others, that my moods are determined by what captures my focus. The enemy understands if he captures our focus, he alters our lives.

Very few individuals realize the power focus plays on their life. Until they do, they never experience the rewarding life God promised them. The emotions you feel, whether good or bad, reveal your focus. God does not and will not starkly force you to focus on His Word. It is your responsibility to focus your attention upon what He says. As you do, your feelings follow. This is the key to mastering any and all of your negative, unhealthy emotions.

APRIL 24 - How does one ever begin to change their choices? Well, it is largely determined by one’s outlook or perspective on life. The way you think about yourself and the world in which you live is key to your success.

One of the greatest truths ever written was penned by King Solomon. He stated, “For as he thinks in his heart, so is he….” Because of one man, an eccentric Englishman, Captain Orde C. Wingate, Moshe Dayan’s perspective would be forever altered. An intelligence officer sent to Palestine to suppress skirmishes between the Arabs and Jews, Captain Wingate began training the Haganah, teaching them fundamental night tactics and sharing his expertise on military strategy—the unrivaled value of surprise and speed. Volunteering for Captain Wingate’s “Special Night Squads” (the SNS), Moshe Dayan was made second in command at age 22. By changing his outlook via the guidance of Captain Wingate, Dayan’s actions automatically followed, initiating a plan for future success as he began envisioning victory at every turn.

It doesn’t matter if other people see you as a success. How do you see yourself? You will never obtain God’s will in your life until you see yourself as God sees you. As you change the way you think, your actions automatically follow. Case in point: The reason so few people explored the New World was because they erroneously believed the earth was flat. Why would you take the time to explore if you believed the earth was flat? You see, their beliefs governed their actions. But there was a man who believed otherwise, and his actions followed suit. That man gallantly discovered the New World because he believed beyond all doubt the earth indeed was round.

FEBRUARY 3 - Ah, the unmatched excitement of moving into a new house—the feel of new carpeting beneath your feet, the scent of fresh oak lingering in the air, and the sight of unmarred walls, just waiting to be decorated – by you. No matter what memories your old environment holds, your full concentration now lies upon this wonderful new dwelling. Knowing that your old self no longer exists is the foundational truth that gives you not only the understanding, but also the confidence that your future is going to marvelously exceed your past. Understanding who you are in Christ is the foundation of your Christian life, helping you better identify which thoughts are God’s, and which thoughts are not. Understanding and embracing this new identity protects you from past issues that often hinder your current progress.

People constantly say to me, “You know, I read the Bible, I pray, I go to church, and I witness to people about the Lord. So why does it seem like whenever the pressure is on, I resort to my old ways?”

The answer to that question is simple: you haven’t yet come to understand who Jesus created you to be and what He did for you through His death and resurrection. In order to successfully withstand the pressures of this world and renovate your mind according to the new life that is yours in Christ, you must understand righteousness — the ability to live continually in right standing with God. You are the righteousness of Christ. You have a bright future in store. Embrace your new identity, just as you would that new house, and you’ll soon enjoy the promise land that God is building especially for you.

JANUARY 23 - In the 1850’s, no European had ever set foot in the heart of Africa. Though mauled by a lion, separated from his family, and deserted by native helpers, Dr. David Livingstone faithfully spoke these words: “I shall open up a path into the interior or perish.” As a result of his resolute words and corresponding actions, Africa was fully opened to the gospel of Christ.

These Scriptures in James clearly reveal the invincible power of the tongue. Although the tongue may appear minuscule, it ultimately controls the actions of the entire body. James compares the tongue to a horse’s bit (James 3:3); the one who controls that small bit has complete jurisdiction over the whole horse. James also uses a ship’s rudder as an example; a rudder is usually very small in comparison to the ship, but when the captain turns that rudder, the huge ship turns along with it.

Just as the rudder controls the destination of a ship, the tongue is the rudder of our lives. No matter how big life’s problems appear, we must use our mouths to guide and steer us in the direction God desires. It takes time to direct a huge ship; it also takes time for our transformation. Circumstances don’t change instantaneously. By continuing to confess His Word and keep the rudder turned, in due time our lives line up with what we say. As did the great Dr. Livingstone, let’s confess what we want to happen in the future  instead of moaning about what we see today.

JANUARY 4 - No one desires to go through life without making significant progress. God placed within every person a craving to succeed. All of us want to get better, do more, and help others achieve their dreams. Those desires are given to us by God. Nevertheless, progress is only guaranteed to those who choose to commit their lives to Him, having cut, scraped, and eroded away the very core of their old lives.

It is only a matter of time before we see those who have yet to commit their lives to God cry out for help. Although they may have all the possessions one could want, their internal lives are in shambles, crumbling away into particles of raw dust. God always begins on the inside before He ever manifests on the outside. True progress is when one commits his life and plans to the Lord, allowing Him to guide and lead his steps. As we commit our work to the Lord, our plans succeed.

Why not choose today to give God not part, but your entire life? He deserves it. God desires to make you and I great; all He requests is our compliance! When presented with the possibility of losing everything he had worked for so tirelessly, John the Baptist said, “I must decrease and He must increase.” That means that the more we pursue God, the less we desire the pleasurable things this world has to offer, thereby causing great progress to be made.
