“And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two.”
Matthew 5:41 (NKJV)
JANUARY 31 - Having been so infuriated by his people being forever pushed around by foreign thugs, a Hebrew priest named Mattathias finally decided to go beyond limitations. Walking up to the city’s Greek altar, Mattathias smashed it into pieces, starting a twenty-four year conflict. After winning Jerusalem, the first thing they did was toss away every object of Greek idolatry from the temple, and gave back the holy site to God’s people. This victory is known today as the Feast of Hanukkah.
You must do more than what is expected of you. You may think you are busy, but you must realize that everyone is busy, not just you. There are never-ending opportunities available to a person who is willing to go beyond the confines of their Positions Results Description. Taking on extra work by your own initiative shows your superiors that you are determined to succeed. Chances are your company aspires to expand. If you can add fuel to that fire, in time, you will be rewarded.
We all have things that are required of us: work duties, domestic chores, legal obligations, social expectations, and spiritual requirements. Many people stop and never discover what it means to be pleasing. You cannot please your employer by doing only what he pays you to do. You only bring pleasure by doing more than your salary requires. Our promotion in life cannot come by simply fulfilling our current requirements. The pure, refreshing water of promotion only flows when we discover what is desired of us. Mattathias went above and beyond his priestly duties. It takes concentrated effort, but the reward is well worth going the “extra mile.”
Daily Confession
Father, I thank You that I go above and beyond what is required of me.
I chose to do everything as if I were doing it for You.

Shattered Dreams - Book
If you’re like most people, you have several unfulfilled dreams lying dusty and neglected in some forgotten corner of your life. Some of those dreams may even seem shattered beyond hope or repair. Perhaps your dreams were crushed by an unexpected crisis or the negative words of people close to you. Or maybe you’ve just let the everyday obstacles and challenges of life discourage you to the point of giving up — and now, you feel more like a victim than a victor.
No matter what “dream-destroyer” has shoved your dreams to the sidelines, author Robb Thompson wants to help you see those dreams restored and realized at last. In his book, Shattered Dreams, Dr. Thompson presents scriptural guidelines that, if followed, will catapult your dreams out of that dusty, forgotten corner of neglect and into the spotlight of fulfillment and success.
Dr. Thompson’s message is clear: Nothing or no one (except you) can keep you from living the life of greatness in God about which you’ve always dreamed. Are you ready to dust off your dreams? You are well able to overcome the “dream-destroyers!”
