“But (like a boxer) I buffet my body (handle it roughly, discipline it by hardships) and subdue it, for fear that after proclaiming to others the Gospel and things pertaining to it, I myself should become unfit.”
1 Corinthians 9:27 (AMP)
NOVEMBER 5 -
• Discipline simply means to train or drill by instruction.
• Self-discipline is the bridge between your desires and their fulfillment.
• Self-discipline only has one purpose, and that is to form positive habits in our life.
Withdrawing from the crowds at the right time was essential for Jesus—for His spiritual as well as physical well-being. Withdrawing from others is essential for every believer, but we must create it as a habit. We are not creatures of discipline but rather, creatures of habit. Through resolute discipline, however, we can create the habits that we need in order to accomplish God’s will for our lives.
One of the reasons we may have difficulty creating the right habits is because we attempt to change too many areas of our life at one time. We must be patient with ourselves. I encourage you to take the time to focus on one area of your life that you would like to change, and then begin to apply the necessary discipline to that area. Forming positive habits requires time and diligence.
If we refuse to quit, we see positive habits formed in our lives—habits that bring success.
Daily Confession
Father, I thank You that I buffet my body. I handle it roughly and discipline it by instruction and training. I subdue it and make my body my slave. I am a soldier of Christ Jesus, and I refuse to entangle myself in any affair that causes my focus to be broken.
