“The arrogance of all people will be brought low. Their pride will lie in the dust. The Lord alone will be exalted! Idols will be utterly abolished and destroyed.”
Isaiah 2:17-18 (NLT)
JANUARY 14 - Since Adam and Eve sinned, all of humanity has been infected with pride, contaminated as bleakly as a garden of wilted leaves. However, there is wonderful news: Christ came to cure us of that infection, which even caused Satan to be ousted from the magnificent splendors of Heaven. But how are we to conquer pride in our lives, once and for all? Well, there are two things we must do. First, we must humble ourselves, becoming as meek as young children. Second, we must willingly accomplish exactly what God called us to complete. As we continually place ourselves under His mighty hand, eventually, we will be exalted.
Prideful people customarily demand respect and admiration, but respect that is demanded is not true respect. You see, just as a doctor must earn his license in order to practice medicine, true respect also must be earned.
Humility—do you realize that is the highest virtue any man can possess? God’s Word continually tells us to humble ourselves; Jesus is our prime example. The apostle Paul explains it in Philippians 2:8, “And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death.” The Son of God became a human to save all of humanity. What greater example do we need? Jesus was highly exalted and obtained a name that is above every other name. Likewise, we must humble ourselves as children today, in order to be exalted as praiseworthy men and women in the future.
