The Bridge To God’s Will Can Never Be Crossed Until The Bridge From Your Will Is Finally Burned

“Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.”
Matthew 26:42 (NKJV)

JULY 28 - His unmistakable scent; his legendary stride; his fury, his anointing — when Elijah appeared at Elisha’s field, no one could mistake what had happened. The coat of the fiery prophet Elijah was symbolically presented to Elisha, signaling to everyone that Elisha was to follow the prophet of God. At the time, Elisha’s livelihood was his team of oxen and his plow. When the man of God arrived, however, Elisha burned his plow until it became ash and roasted his oxen for a commemorative meal. There could be no retreat, just as there would be no retreat for Jesus when it came time for the Father’s will to be done on the cross. Jesus, as well as Elisha, walked confidently into the will of God. The will of God is not as mysterious as it may seem.

First Thessalonians 5:16-18 tells us exactly what God’s will is for our lives: “Always be joyful. Keep on praying. No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” God’s will is contained in those explicit instructions: Don’t be like the world… Embrace God’s way of thinking… Always be joyful… Keep on praying… And always be thankful.

We fulfill God’s will when we follow these commands. To live in such a way means we must be thoroughly finished with our own way of living. We must burn the bridges to our own righteousness, troubles, and time constraints. The bridge of God’s Word that lies in front of us transports us to God’s will. The secret, nonetheless, is to remain firmly on the bridge.

Father, I thank You that I am not conformed to this world, but I am transformed by the renewing of my mind, and I prove what is Your good, pleasing, and perfect will.

The Day You Die To “Self” Is The Day You Begin To Live For God

“And you cannot be My disciple if you do not carry your own cross and follow Me.”
Luke 14:27 (NLT)

JUNE 14 - The day Mary forfeited her reputation, dying to self, was the day she fully began to live for God.The day Joseph forfeited his feelings and pride, also dying to self, was the day he fully began to live for God. There is a great price to pay for those who desire to live for God.

Living for God does not just happen through your confession; it must become evident in your actions as well. Jesus qualifies His true disciples as “those willing to die to themselves, take up the cross, and follow Him.” John the Baptist said it best when he made the statement, “I must decrease and He must increase.” The apostle Paul said, “for me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

These were two men who changed the world by their sacrifice. Why? Because the moment you die to self is the moment you begin to live fully for God. God cannot use a man who is unwilling to die to  his own desires and wants.

We must realize that our greatest enemy is the one we see in the mirror. We hold ourselves back from truly being used by God. You may hear a man confess, “Lord, whatever it is You want for my life, I will go anywhere, but please don’t send me to Africa.” God cannot use a man like that. We must be willing to surrender our entire lives, as did Mary with her reputation and Joseph with his feelings, if we truly desire to be used by God.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live but Christ lives through me and in me. I am a disciple of Christ. I willingly lay down my life for the cross of my King.

Sacrifice Is The Road Traveled On Your Journey To Divine Destiny

“Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, ‘O My Father,
if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.’”

Matthew 26:42 (NKJV)

APRIL 30 - No one understood the principle of sacrifice more than Jesus. As you see in the verse stated above, Jesus’ only road to His divine destiny was the cross, with the ultimate sacrifice – His life! God calls us
to imitate Christ and rely on Him as our divine example. God has a plan for every one of us…but that plan is only fulfilled as we willingly surrender our lives. Jesus does not allow anyone to follow Him without them first being willing to give up their life.

Along with several thousands of Palestinian Jewish volunteers, Moshe Dayan (who served as liaison officer with the British in Jerusalem) helped organize a daring mission during World War II. Sacrificing all comfort and ease, these volunteers (clearly risking their lives) successfully parachuted German Jews into occupied countries, aiding in the return of downed British pilots. A great sacrifice—a wonderful mission…extremely hazardous, nonetheless.

Everything worth pursuit requires you to pay a price. Abraham became a friend of God, but it did not happen until he was willing to sacrifice his son. Paul is known as one of the greatest apostles of all time, but he was harshly beaten, hideously whipped, stoned nearly to death, and brutally persecuted. We all want to reach the destiny God has for us, but only those willing to pay the sacrificial price ever experience it.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that You placed within me the same spirit that dwells in Jesus. I understand that the road to my divine destiny requires a sacrificial life. I willingly give up my life to serve You all my days.

Future Progress Is Destroyed By Giving In To The Pressure Of Instant Gratification

“He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, ‘O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.’”
Matthew 26:39 (NKJV)

APRIL 22 - The refreshing sight of the robin…the invigorating scent of newly burgeoning trees…the friendly honking of white-necked Canadian geese—these are some of the luscious wonders of spring. What would happen if the world’s farmers decided to relax during this season of growth, taking walks in the woods instead of planting seeds? No doubt, disaster in the fields would ultimately occur! Everything in God’s realm is methodically performed in seasons. There is an expressed season of sowing seed, and a subsequent season of reaping the harvest.

However, because the harvest may take some time to manifest, we don’t always notice the cause and effect connection between the seed we sowed years ago, and the negative consequences we currently reap. We must take the present and sow it as a seed expecting to receive a great future. But why do so many squander their time today, while idealistically expecting a great future tomorrow? It is because their belief system is self-deceiving. The truth is: we reap only what we sow.

At age 12, Moshe Dayan stood sentry duty in his struggling village of Nahalal, where marauding bands of Bedouins routinely attacked. In less than two years time, he became a member of Haganah, a Jewish defense militia. Young Dayan sowed the seeds for one of the most illustrious military careers in modern history. Please consider: What are you sowing today? Where does your time go? Where is your focus directed? The answers to these questions give you a clear idea of your future.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I refuse to worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow takes care of itself. I look at my today as seed I sow to create the future I desire.

All Men Want To Excel But Few Want To Pay The Price

“Do you not know that those who run in a race all run,
but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.”

1 Corinthians 9:24 (NKJV)

MARCH 29 - Often working in conjunction with the Hebrew farmer was the shepherd. Few Bible students realize, however, the tremendous sacrifice true shepherds faced. Often exposed to frigid, inclement weather, he dressed in rough animal skins, carrying a thick club for protection against thieves and wild animals. When the flocks remained outdoors at night, the shepherd slept attentively beside his flock, waking several times to ensure their safety. Sacrifice—this principle stands true in any area of life—diets, stronger relationship with God, finances, intimacy between spouses, etc. I have discovered that life doesn’t usually give us what
we want. Life usually gives to us what we deserve. Or perhaps I can state it this way: life gives us what we work for, not what we think we should have. The Bible says, “Go to the ant you sluggard! Consider her
way and be wise, which, having no captain, overseer or ruler, provides her supplies in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.”

Excellence doesn’t just happen by chance. You have to passionately and diligently pursue it. Excellence comes with a price tag, but I guarantee it is cheaper than compromise. Compromise costs your life, whereas
excellence asks from you to give 100% every day. Make every day count. Live as though today was your last day on earth. Learn sacrifice, and obtain the prize by:

  • Paying any price to change.
  • Paying the price to have a deeper relationship with God.

You’ll never be the same once you make the dedicated decision to pursue excellence in every area of your life.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am in Christ and all that matters is that Christ is in me.

Giving Up What You Want Is The Beginning Of Giving God What He Wants

“For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the Gospel’s will save it.”

Mark 8:35 (NKJV)

FEBRUARY 25 - Here are two extraordinary questions for you to carefully consider:

  • Why do I want what I want?
  • How could I even suppose my own desires could compare with the desires God divinely prepared for me?

Now, here are some possibilities:

Pride—Individuals with a proud heart won’t admit they still cling to their own desires. They convince themselves that their own way of doing things is correct, superior, and even Godly.

Comfort—Whatever God leads us to will be great, but it will not be comfortable. People stop surrendering their will to God when the next step requires sacrificing more comfort than they are willing to accept.

Misunderstanding—It is impossible for people to surrender their desires when they don’t believe in God’s goodness. Those who view God as a traditional dictator (as opposed to a benevolent king) never understand that the scope of God’s plan is infinitely more wonderful than a personal dream.

God firmly prohibited the Jews from charging interest on loans of silver, chattel, or produce. Nonetheless, selfish moneychangers often consented to this desire for greed, in direct disregard of the law. Do you currently have a difficult time trying to let go of your own selfish desires? Have you dealt with pride, comfort, or misunderstanding in your life? Deal with it today. Make sure you ask God to search your heart and divest you of any desires that are contrary to Him.

Daily Confession

Father, I realize my life is worth nothing unless I use it to do the work assigned to me by You—the work of telling others the Good News about Your wonderful kindness and love.

Winning The Heart Of God - Book

What is the ultimate prize that this world has to offer? The Nobel Peace Prize? An Oscar? A Super Bowl ring? A lucrative recording contract?

Certainly you can find all types of contests in which to compete and a host of valuable prizes to covet in today’s society. But in this book, Dr. Robb Thompson tells you how to win the ultimate prize of life – the heart of your Heavenly Father.

Using illustrations from the lives of Biblical men and women, Dr. Thompson vividly portrays what it means to be a person after God’s own heart. In the process, he tackles the all-important topics of submission and covenant loyalty – scriptural concepts that are frequently shunned and swept under the collective rug in Christendom today.

As Dr. Thompson so succinctly asks, “What else do you have in life, if you don’t have the heart of the Father?” That’s a question only you can answer for yourself. Pursue the prize of your Father’s heart, and watch everything else in your life fall into place (Matthew 6:33).

You Must Sacrifice What You Already Have In Order To Possess What You Desire

“The kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field—and to get the treasure, too!”
Matthew 13:44 (NLT)

FEBRUARY 14 - While Union and Confederate troops were bleeding and dying in the battlefield and the war effort was in serious need of supplies, the President’s wife, Mary Todd, was resolute. She purchased 400 pairs of gloves during her first year in the White House, and her most famous acquisition was an ornate rosewood bed that was never slept in by the President. Though challenged to sacrifice, she refused even during a gory, treasury-depleting civil war. Quite prosperous in her own right, Mary Todd Lincoln had no inclination of setting an example of sacrifice.

One of the main reasons so many Christians stray from the faith is because they were never challenged to pay a price to follow Christ. The only proof that you value something is your willingness to sacrifice something you already have in order to possess it. Did not God value us so much that He was willing to sacrifice His only Son? But the Gospel message has been so watered down that we don’t even mention the sacrifice people are required to make to live for Jesus.

What have you given up to follow Christ? I have never seen a Christian enjoy life who was unwilling to sacrifice his own life and the desires that typically come. To be honest, I believe there is more joy for an unbeliever living in sin than a Christian who stubbornly withholds his life from Christ Jesus. May God help you give up your life to serve and live for Him. Then you will possess the abundant life Jesus offers.

Daily Confession

Father, I esteem and value my relationship with Christ more than life itself. It is my treasure. I lay down my life for Christ that I may gain and possess all You have for me.
