Meditation Upon God’s Word Is The Key That Unlocks The Door To God’s Purpose In Life

Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is.
Romans 12:2 (NLT)

DECEMBER 29 - It has become a celebrated fact that we live in a civilization of head-throbbing commotion and nerve-shattering anxiety. Lifetimes frantically begin and end in a whirlwind of superficial activity and
nonstop bustling, all this simply to “make a living.” Yet, at the core of every person is a passionate desire to discover something deeper. The heart of every man possesses profound longings for life’s meaning and purpose.

Have you ever met an individual who appears to have it all together but remains dissatisfied? Although he has achieved some degree of success, the lack of fulfillment gnaws at his soul like a semi taking a chunk from his rear bumper. He is not happy, though he has every reason to be, and there’s no explanation in the world for it. Continually he asks the question, What does this all mean? His void of purpose stretches as far as the longest superhighway across three states.

So when the streetlights are illuminated and we are alone with our thoughts, the questions begin to emerge: Why am I here? Is there a purpose for my life? Is there a specific assignment that I am supposed to fulfill? How do I discover that assignment? And once I do, how do I bring it to pass?

Father I thank you that I do not conform myself to this world, but I allow you to transform my life by changing the way I think. I embrace your Word, therefore I will discover my purpose in life.

An Abused Life Is A Life Without Purpose

“Store your treasures in heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be.”
Matthew 6:20-21 (NLT)

NOVEMBER 22 - “Do you think anyone can actually use some of this junk?” Sifting through broken tools, worn filters, flattened tires, and empty cans of oil, their deceased grandfather’s garage was filled to the brim with stuff. “This is where he spent the majority of his time,” one of his grieving grandsons reminisced. Tossing the debris into a heavy-duty garbage bag, “It’s too bad he didn’t start a mentorship program or
something, you know, for guys in trouble. They sure could have profited from our grandpa’s experience, the best auto mechanic this town has ever seen. Now, I guess it’s just too late.”

And the person to whom Jesus refers in Matthew 6 is also one who lives without a purpose. People like these have lives filled with great temporary things, but they do nothing that brings them an eternal return. Since everything around us is going to disappear one day, how foolish it is to live just for the here-and-now. We could call that “life abuse.”

We have a choice to make every morning. Either we use the day to make something out of the life God so graciously gave us, or we squander our hours on fleeting pleasures and aimlessness. God’s grace is available to all who come to Him, unequivocally offering themselves as living sacrifices. That must be the first step. God has the final authority in our life, and we should do whatever we must to make sure our life is used to the fullest, both for our good and for the good of the people around us. Live your life on purpose!

Father, I thank You for giving me the gift of life. I thank You for giving me the grace I need to make each day worthwhile and full of purpose.

Your Purpose In Life Is Something You Discover, Not Something You Decide

“But we know these things because God has revealed them to us by His Spirit, and His Spirit searches out everything and shows us even God’s deep secrets.”
1 Corinthians 2:10 (NLT)

JULY 11 - Extending his hands over the uneven tabletop, it would take just a little more work until finally finished. Chairs, chests, tables, beams, and doors—the scent of the forest ran deep within Joseph’s blood. But as his firstborn grew into a man, Joseph began to discover that he was more than a carpenter—he was the earthly father of the King of kings. Everything is created for a purpose. We were created for a purpose just as well. Let’s consider Jesus and His cousin, John the Baptist. They didn’t choose what God wanted for their lives. They searched until they discovered their purpose in the Word of God.

God placed a calling on each and every one of us. All of us are called to obey. There is no exemption from obedience. Only upon the road of obedience do we discover our purpose in life. The Creator decides, while the creation discovers. Many Christians attempt to tell the Creator what they are going to do. This is not the way it is intended to be. Our purpose is discovered, not decided.

This does not mean we sit and wait for God to tell us what to do. We must take action and begin to move in the direction of the desires within our heart. Action causes our purpose to become clear. What this means is along the path we walk, we avail ourselves to the written Word of God, spiritual authorities, and the Spirit. We ask the question, “Father, does this bring You pleasure?”

Father, I thank You for revealing secret things to me by Your Spirit. Through my obedience to You, I discover Your purpose for my life and fulfill what You called me to do.

Excellence In Character - Book

Have you tested your foundation lately?

A house built on a faulty foundation soon becomes unfit to live in. Shifting soil causes cracks in the foundation. Gradually those cracks travel upward to the walls and ceilings of the house, causing more and more structural damage — not to mention more headaches to those who live inside. Think of the loss and trouble the homeowners could have avoided if they had only tested the foundation before they moved in!

In the same way, we will save ourselves a lifetime of grief if we will just take the time to test the foundation of our lives — our character — and deal with any cracks or flaws that could later lead to disaster. As author Robb Thompson stresses, “Without a strong, solid foundation of God’s principles undergirding our lives, everything else we attempt to build or accomplish will eventually crumble and fall. In fact, any breakdown in life can almost always be traced back to a breakdown in character.”

Let Dr. Thompson help you explore what God has to say about pursuing excellent character. Then start building a rock-solid, Godly character that will lead you to God’s highest for your life!

Integrity Without Purpose Is Worthless; Purpose Without Integrity Is Useless

“Happy are people of integrity, who follow the law of the Lord.”
Psalm 119:1 (NLT)

APRIL 3 - As believers, our purpose in life is to seek and satisfy our Lord and Savior. Our lives must hinge on that one pursuit – to please God. Within our purpose, God places upon each individual an assignment
that He calls us to fulfill. Yet far too many believers zealously seek to fulfill their assignment while leaving behind a trail of wounded people and broken hearts.

Due to the vast amount of time, labor, and patience it took for the cultivation of the olive, the integrity of the Israelite soldier (even in something as seemingly replaceable as a tree) was indeed very crucial to the nation, as well as to God. Because of their love for country and God, even in time of war, soldiers were trusted not to damage an olive grove. The deliberate destruction of one individual tree was strictly forbidden.

We, too, are called to walk in love and live with integrity. God is not pleased with the man who did what was instructed but lacked integrity. God does not separate our character from our purpose. We cannot cheerfully fulfill one while harshly neglecting the other. Always be diligent and serious about living a life of integrity, a life in which you keep your word and do what you know to be right. The moment our integrity lines up with our purpose, no devil can stop us from changing lives.

The abundant life full of joy and satisfaction only belongs to those who choose to apply integrity with their purposed life. Today we must make the choice to do the same.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am a person of integrity, therefore I am happy. I live by Your Word and I build my life upon the sure foundation of Your character.

Obedience Is The Key That Unlocks The Door To God’s Purpose For Your Life

“If you keep yourself pure, you will be a utensil God can use for His purpose. Your life will be clean, and you will be ready for the Master to use you for every good work.”
2 Timothy 2:21 (NLT)

MARCH 18 - How would you react if you were in dire need of an operation, but every surgeon in town refused to take time to sterilize his equipment? Would you take the chance of being slashed open with dirty, bacterialaden instruments?

Cleanliness possesses an immeasurable worth in almost every area in of life. And since God has a specific purpose and plan for each of our lives, this unique plan can only be discovered through daily obedience
– keeping ourselves pure, clean, and ready. The moment we begin to obey is the precise moment that destiny’s door begins to swing adventurously open. The dreams and desires God has for our futures are contained within the seed of diligent obedience. It is a sad thing, but many individuals never discover what they were meant to do here on earth simply because they refuse to obey.

Satan attempts to keep the door shut tight to the room of our assignment; but God promises that our obedience is the strategic key to unlock that closed door. Heaven always uses the obedient to do great and mighty things in the earth. But before Heaven can use us, we must change our thinking from “Obedience is all God requires of me,” to, “I have an assignment and a divine purpose, and obedience will take me to it.” I believe we are of those who will do great and mighty things for our King in the earth, don’t you?

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am a pure utensil You can use for Your purpose. My life is clean, and I am ready for You to use me for every good work. I hear Your voice, and I am obedient to Your Word.

God’s Will For Your Life Is Hidden Within The Pages Of His Holy Word

“Friendship with the Lord is reserved for those who fear Him. With them He shares the secrets of His covenant.”
Psalm 25:14 (NLT)

MARCH 17 - I hear it far too often, “Pastor, I just want to know God’s will for my life.” My simple response to them is, “What does His Word tell you to do?” Have you stopped to realize that God rarely speaks to those who are unwilling to do His Word? His will for our lives is simple—obey His Word! When Israel obeyed, eagerly and respectfully following God’s desires, things went great. But when they stubbornly ignored Him, their enemies were waiting at the front gate!

Obedience to His Word is His will for our lives. Some may say, “Well, Pastor, who am I supposed to marry… What am I supposed to do for a career…?” Obey! Obey! Obey! There is no way around it.

Obedience is the path that leads you down God’s hidden will for your life. He does not, and will not, reveal His hidden will until we first do His known will. As you journey down the path of obedience, a divine peace will capture your soul concerning the unknown will of God for your life. Refuse to follow the example of the ancient Israelites when they ignored God. Choose now to obey!

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am a doer of Your Word and I am continually transformed. I choose to obey having complete confidence that Your unknown will for my life will be manifest.

An Abused Life Is Simply A Life Without Purpose

“Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where they can be eaten by moths and get rusty, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in Heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and  thoughts will also be.”
Matthew 6:19-21 (NLT)

JANUARY 30 - Did your mother ever fragrance the family’s closets with handfuls of those slippery, tiny white spheres called mothballs? If she did, that unforgettable odor will probably stay with you for the rest of your life, an aromatic reminder that things down here can be easily “eaten up.” Moths and rust are simple facts of life – telltale hazards of placing all our valuables within this dying world.

The person to whom Jesus refers in Matthew 6 is the one who lives without a purpose. Perhaps their life is filled with a great number of temporary things, but they accomplish zilch when it comes to an eternal return. Since everything around us is one day going to vanish, how foolish it is to live just for the here-and-now. We could call that “life abuse.”

We have a choice to make the very second our eyes converge upon the next sunrise. Either we can use the day to make something out of the life God has so graciously given us, or we can squander our hours on fleeting pleasures and self-centered aimlessness, our time rusting away like the body of an old, discarded automobile. God’s grace is available to all who come to Him, offering themselves as living sacrifices. That needs to be our initial step. And as God has the final authority in our life, we do whatever we must to make sure that our life is used to the fullest, for our good, and for the good of the people around us. We will live our life, on purpose.

the grace I need to make each day worthwhile and full of purpose.

Shattered Dreams - Book

If you’re like most people, you have several unfulfilled dreams lying dusty and neglected in some forgotten corner of your life. Some of those dreams may even seem shattered beyond hope or repair. Perhaps your dreams were crushed by an unexpected crisis or the negative words of people close to you. Or maybe you’ve just let the everyday obstacles and challenges of life discourage you to the point of giving up — and now, you feel more like a victim than a victor.

No matter what “dream-destroyer” has shoved your dreams to the sidelines, author Robb Thompson wants to help you see those dreams restored and realized at last. In his book, Shattered Dreams, Dr. Thompson presents scriptural guidelines that, if followed, will catapult your dreams out of that dusty, forgotten corner of neglect and into the spotlight of fulfillment and success.

Dr. Thompson’s message is clear: Nothing or no one (except you) can keep you from living the life of greatness in God about which you’ve always dreamed. Are you ready to dust off your dreams? You are well able to overcome the “dream-destroyers!”
