God’s Commands Reveal To Man His Perfection; The Cross Reveals To Man God’s Forgiveness

“Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets…”
Romans 3:20-21 (NKJV)

DECEMBER 31 - Sadly, most Christians don’t understand righteousness. Instead, they live in the New Covenant with an Old Covenant mind. What do I mean by that? Well, under the Old Covenant, God wrote His commandments in stone with His finger. He told His people, “Don’t commit adultery. Don’t bear false witness. Don’t have any other gods before Me. Don’t covet your neighbor’s wife. Don’t do this, and don’t do that.”

A Christian who doesn’t understand his own righteousness before God eventually begins to live like a robot, consumed with his efforts to fulfill all the do’s and avoid all the don’ts. On the inside, though, his mind rips him apart as he struggles with old, carnal desires to do wrong things.

God made a new covenant with man through the blood of His Son, and now He sees no fault in humanity. That’s not to say that humanity has no fault—it does. Rather, it’s to say that what Jesus did was enough
to eradicate the resulting spiritual separation.

Father, I thank You that by the deeds of the law, no flesh is justified in Your sight. But now Your righteousness apart from the law is revealed to me and in me.

Forgiveness Is The Perfume That The Broken Heart Casts Back Upon The Foot That Crushed It

“You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”
Colossians 3:13 (NLT)

MARCH 11 - The bitter herb found on the Seder plate, usually foul-smelling horseradish, helps Jews around the world deal with the remembrance of the bitter things that happened before and during their flight from Egypt. One of the most effective weapons hell possesses is bitterness. God gave us the mighty weapon of forgiveness to combat bitterness. Bitterness wipes the smile from the heart and siphons passion from someone who desires to serve God and love His people. It paralyzes the gifts and abilities God placed within us.

In order to experience true happiness, we must overcome any offense that Satan brings our way. People will utter unkind words concerning us, hurt us, and even betray us. Yet, we must respond in faith and forgive anyone who wrongs us. Through forgiveness, we defeat the spirit of bitterness, conquering it once and for all.

Understanding how much Jesus forgave us is crucial when it comes to us forgiving others. We cannot afford to harbor offense within our hearts. Unforgiveness leads to sickness and disease within our bodies. We must be quick to follow the words of the apostle Paul, “Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: and be kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you” (Ephesians 4:31-32). By following this instruction to forgive, we can walk free from bitterness (and its foul smell) and live tenderhearted, peaceable lives.
