Excellence Refuses To Remain At Any Destination For Too Long

“I press on toward the goal to win the prize to which God in Christ Jesus is calling us upward.”
Philippians 3:14 (AMP)

NOVEMBER 1 - Always on the move, Jesus never stayed anywhere for very long—Judea, Galilee, Samaria, Jerusalem. Always traveling—three days here, two weeks there, a month north, and two months south, He pressed on toward the call that God placed upon His holy life. In our lives, we must be the same way. In our own journey of excellence we must continue to press forward without looking back.

Do you realize that the moment we allow ourselves to be satisfied or get comfortable with our present position in life is the moment we no longer grow? God specifically uses those who desire more and who want to go further in life, and God has more for us than we think. He wants us to experience more of Him and what He has to offer.

I know in my own life there are times when I feel as though I’ve reached a plateau, but I refuse to stay there. I just keep pressing on like a soldier going into battle. Abundant life belongs to those who refuse to remain at any destination for too long. Why not ask God to help you continue to press on in life?

Father, I thank You that I press on toward the goal to win the supreme and heavenly prize to which You call me upward.

The Excellent Refuse To Fear Mediocrity; Their Desire Is To Destroy It

“For the thing which I greatly fear comes upon me, and that of which I am afraid befalls me.”
Job 3:25 (AMP)

OCTOBER 26 - Jesus’ thoughts were constantly upon the people—what they were thinking, how they interpreted His teachings, how much faith was in their hearts, having compassion over them as mere flesh. Even so, it was necessary for Jesus to move precisely in the direction of His most dominant thought—that of bringing salvation to the world. We always move in the direction of our most dominant thought. If those thoughts are fear driven, then that is what we experience. But if those thoughts are driven by the Word of God, we experience the fulfilled promises of God. We must build up a great resistance toward mediocre living.

The reason many resist growth is because they fear change. Satan attempts to sow fear into every aspect of our lives, but God’s love casts out all fear. Embrace the fact that He loves you so much that He walks with you step by step until you see the changes in your life that you so deeply desire.

God called all of us to the pursuit of excellence; that seed already dwells within us. It would do well for us to commit to pursue it every day of our lives. When we do, we soon see change that lasts a lifetime.

Father, I thank You for allowing me access to Your thoughts. I refuse to allow myself to live in mediocrity any longer. I choose to exchange my thoughts for Your thoughts. I desire transformation.

A house built on a faulty foundation soon becomes unfit to live in. Shifting soil causes cracks in the foundation, and those cracks lead to costly damage. Think of the trouble that could be avoided if only the foundation were repaired!

Character is the foundation of your life; you can save yourself a lifetime of grief if you will honestly inspect your character, making sure it is built firmly upon the strong, immovable foundation of God’s principles. Dr. Robb Thompson shares many of these valuable principles in this dynamic series – principles such as:

• It’s not what you say that matters, but what you do that makes all the difference.
• Character prefers the rejection of men to the disappointment of Heaven.
• It is impossible for your life to produce anything beyond the strength of your moral fiber.

Let Dr. Thompson help you explore what God has to say about pursuing excellent character. Then start building a rock-solid, Godly character that will lead you to God’s highest for your life.

In Life When There Is More Than One Path To Follow, Always Choose The Divine

“Make me walk along the path of Your commands, for that is where my happiness is found.”
Psalm 119:35 (NLT)

OCTOBER 16 - The high road is the road God desires for us to take in every situation we encounter. We may think that the devil is our greatest enemy, but the truth is, mediocrity – settling for something less than God’s best – is a greater enemy. That is why we have to determine that we will always pursue the divine in every area of our lives.

One of the problems I have discovered in the body of Christ today is that so many individuals live in mediocrity; yet God called us to take the people for whom we are responsible to a higher level. We must be the ones to take a stand and show others how to live a life full of God.

We have been given a divine mandate to help people eliminate the “just good enough” attitude – the attitude that says, “What I do with my life is good enough. Everything is just fine; I don’t need to change.” We must, however, continue to press for a better life every day. The excellence we live today is not good enough for tomorrow. Jesus gave His excellence in everything He did—therefore, we must in turn, desire to give Jesus more tomorrow than what we gave Him today.

Father, I thank You that I examine myself daily and deal with any weakness or flaw in my life. I look forward to my future as I take care of my present. I do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow worries about itself.

The Pursuit Of Excellence Awakens The Process Of Transformation

“Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men.”
Proverbs 22:29 (NKJV)

AUGUST 23 - Stand before kings? Hard to believe, you might say, but it has happened in my life. I have had the privilege of standing before many great men and women, including kings, queens, and presidents of different nations. The verse above says, “Do you see a man who excels? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men.” Your pursuit of excellence awakens the remarkable process of transformation. You may say, “Dr. Thompson, not me. You don’t know me, I am just an ordinary Joe.”

Please listen carefully: If God can take a man who did drugs, became an alcoholic by the age of fourteen, embezzled stereo equipment, and was institutionalized at a mental hospital, and cause him to stand before some of the greatest men and women on the face of the earth, then He can certainly do it for you.

But with every great achievement there comes a great price to be paid. As you pursue excellence, which is the continual pursuit of improvement, God takes you—an ordinary person—and does extraordinary things through your life. Now, the question is, do you believe it?

Father, I thank You that I excel in my work and I will stand before kings and not unknown men.

Winning The Heart Of God - Book

What is the ultimate prize that this world has to offer? The Nobel Peace Prize? An Oscar? A Super Bowl ring? A lucrative recording contract?

Certainly you can find all types of contests in which to compete and a host of valuable prizes to covet in today’s society. But in this book, Dr. Robb Thompson tells you how to win the ultimate prize of life – the heart of your Heavenly Father.

Using illustrations from the lives of Biblical men and women, Dr. Thompson vividly portrays what it means to be a person after God’s own heart. In the process, he tackles the all-important topics of submission and covenant loyalty – scriptural concepts that are frequently shunned and swept under the collective rug in Christendom today.

As Dr. Thompson so succinctly asks, “What else do you have in life, if you don’t have the heart of the Father?” That’s a question only you can answer for yourself. Pursue the prize of your Father’s heart, and watch everything else in your life fall into place (Matthew 6:33).

Excellence Is Little More Than The Passionate Pursuit Of Distinction

“Therefore ‘Come out from among them and be separate,’ says the Lord. ‘Do not touch what is unclean, and I will receive you.’”
2 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV)

JULY 3 - Have you ever wondered why you possess the apt ability to tally the tip at a restaurant in five seconds flat, while tipping a palm-sized golf ball into a grassy hole seems an utter impossibility? In what very distinctive ways has God set you apart from those around you? No two people are fashioned exactly alike by our artistic Creator. You are unique – an exceptional handiwork of esteemed value. God put something extraordinary on the inside of you that no one else has; He gave you an assignment that belongs exclusively to you. What is it, you may eagerly ask.

Romans 12:2 says, “but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect His will really is.” Notice it says, then you will know God’s will…

As you obey God and continually renew your mind with His Word, you will begin to step into the pathway of your distinction, assignment, and destiny. It is important that you pursue His Word at all cost. Never settle for status quo. You are superb! The Bible says, “…seek and you will find…” Go after it. Seek God with all your heart. By learning His ways, His distinction will be made clear inside your life.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I come out from among the world and I separate myself. I refuse to touch what is unclean and I receive You. I am excellent and therefore passionately pursue Your distinction in my life.

Excellence Is The Antidote Used To Stop The Deadly Disease Called Mediocrity

“Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before unknown men.”
Proverbs 22:29 (NKJV)

JUNE 17 - While mediocrity of spirit plagued the scribes and chief priests in Jerusalem as they ignored the Messiah’s birth, the Wise Men of the East paid attention to the spark that lit the Middle-Eastern air. A priestly class, most likely from the region of Persia, they lived in spiritual excellence—potently able to interpret dreams, blessed with supernatural visitations. Mediocrity cruelly infects all of mankind. In our contemporary culture, there is a magnetic pull towards mediocrity. People foolishly attempt to get by in life with the attitude of “just good enough.” That mentality eventually debilitates a person’s potential. The moment we do not press forward, we move backward. We must  continually rise above the temptation to accept the status quo.

The individual who does not desire to excel is deceived into thinking that going further is not worth the effort. However, God wants more for us. The desire to excel is really the desire for a fuller, richer, and more abundant life, which stems from God. When God enters a life, He deposits a relentless desire for betterment. Many quickly reject that desire, either because they have been taught conversely or because they consciously choose laziness.

Nevertheless, we must give our attention to principles of excellence. As in our example of the Wise Men of the East, people of excellence are tools God uses to influence kings and great men across the entire globe. If we neglect to become more, we reject our duty to allow God to express Himself through us.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am a person who excels in my work. I will stand before great men and kings. I continually press forward to a fuller, enriched life that glorifies You.

There Is No Subsitute For Becoming The Expert In Your Pursuits

“The governors reported to the vice-regents, who made sure that everything was in order for the king. But Daniel, brimming with spirit and intelligence, so completely outclassed the other vice-regents and governors that the king decided to put him in charge of the whole kingdom.”
Daniel 6:1-3 (The Message)

JUNE 11 - Read again how The Message says in Daniel 6:3, “…Daniel…so completely out-classed the other[s]…” That’s pretty impressive. I hope the same can be said of me. Do my spirit and my attitude put me head and shoulders above others? It is erroneous to think that we can accomplish all that God has planned for us without becoming the absolute best we can be in our chosen field of endeavor. The Scriptures tell us that we are to do everything as if we were doing it for the Lord Jesus Christ. We actually contradict God’s Word when we allow ourselves to slump into mediocrity or just-good-enough performances.

Once Joseph was fully persuaded that Mary would give birth to the Messiah, he did his best as an earthly Jewish father—carefully watching over mother and Son, taking the Child to the temple, and following God through specific dreams. God demanded Joseph’s best, and His grace empowered Joseph to accomplish it. God’s life within us demands our very best, and His grace empowers us to give it!

There is no way around it; God wants our best, and that’s what will take us to the next level of:

  • A place of promotion
  • A sphere of influence
  • A life of prosperity
  • A new area of fulfillment

Make the choice to move in the right direction and embrace change in your life.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You for pouring out Your grace on me to help me become my absolute best in the areas to which You assigned me.

Honesty Is A Major Ingredient In The Foundation Of All Perosonal Excellence

“Good people are guided by their honesty; treacherous people are destroyed by their dishonesty.”
Proverbs 11:3 (NLT)

MAY 30 - While the shepherds’ hearts were flooded with great joy, the rest of Bethlehem slept, unaware that the true Savior of the world had come, wondrously called, “The Way, The Truth, and The Life.” How can we excel in any area of life without possessing the awesome virtue of honesty? We must be truthful with where we are, where we want to go, and with our Creator. When we walk in honesty, it causes us to progress in life like never before, and likewise prevents us from going backwards. As we cultivate honesty in our lives, excellence is a daily by-product. Many times, people are unwilling to be honest with where they are in life because they know the report would be dismal. Remember, we cannot disregard our actions of disobedience and then haughtily claim we are the righteousness of God. When we evaluate our present position, we discover the truth hidden in the preconceived actions of yesterday.

Examining ourselves causes us to come to grips with the truth. When we embrace the truth our actions declare of us, we begin to move in the direction God desires for us. We cannot change what we don’t know. We can only move forward as we are willing to change. God Himself placed leaders over us who see the weaknesses we possess. They understand if our weaknesses are not addressed, our progress comes to a halt. Our leaders prove their love by their willingness to tell us the truth at the cost of our disliking them. Truth hurts, but it liberates us if we learn to embrace it. Ask yourself, and ask those above you, exactly what you need to change. Your response determines the excellence in which you walk.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I am guided and directed by honesty. I choose to be honest with You, myself, with those You place above me.ather, I thank You that my feet are firmly planted on the Rock, Jesus Christ.

Excellence Is A Lifelong Discipline, Not A Pause In The Life Of Mediocrity

“…and He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for Him and make the Kingdom of God your primary concern. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”
Matthew 6:33-34 (NLT)

MAY 10 - There are all kinds of lists in the world: best-seller, government watch, crime statistical, animal endangerment, trendy dress, and weekly shopping lists. But excellence is not simply another list, filled with principles to be checked off as though on our daily “to-do” list. Nor is excellence reaching a particular destination. Excellence is a journey. It is becoming the very person God destined you to become.

Heaven’s message is clear: A casual attitude toward life leads us to a place of disappointment and defeat. If we want to realize God’s best and go further than our present state, we must answer His call, launching out on the jet that leads us to a lifelong mission of excellence.

Too often people say they want excellence in their lives, but they stop pursuing excellence because the price is too high. Many people become discouraged and quit the moment they realize excellence requires a daily striving for improvement. They are simply unwilling to pay the price to obtain the prize.

Excellence is something we must pursue continually, something we must earnestly seek, like water in a dry, barren land. It is the quest to become healthy in all areas of life. We must ask ourselves, “Why should I embrace this message of excellence?” Because the existence of God living within you demands that you improve—daily.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I seek first Your Kingdom and Your principles. I never settle for just good enough because my desire in life is to walk the journey of excellence. I press toward the goal to win the prize for which You called me.

A Man’s Progress In Life Is In Direct Proportion To His Continual Pursuit Of Excellence

“I press toward the goal for the prize
of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 3:14 (NKJV)

JANUARY 6 - Most Biblical scholars agree; the Middle Eastern landscape, particularly the area known as the “Fertile Crescent,” is some of the most excellent terrain for agriculture in the world. Useful plants such as wheat, oats, barley, and rye, originated in that habitat, and then spread throughout Africa, Europe, and finally the West. Without that excellent soil, we might not even enjoy our morning toast.

Long ago, someone pursued that excellent soil, tilling, weeding, and harvesting it in order that they might receive the prize of fresh grain. Remember, “good enough” is not acceptable behavior to a man of excellence. We must refuse the temptation to merely settle. Many people have what I like to call the “destination syndrome.” People reach a certain goal or point in life, and for some reason, their pursuit stops. They settle contentedly at this one destination that they worked so hard to attain, perched like a weary crow. But the moment we settle in life is the moment we no longer make any progress. And nature reveals to us that anything that does not grow (as in those lovely grains) is in the process of dying.

Why not pursue God with everything you have? At all cost, find ways to become more like Christ. Pursue the things of God; you won’t be disappointed. Write down this principle where you can see it every day — “A Man’s Progress In Life Is In Direct Proportion To His Continual Pursuit Of Excellence.” Meditate on it, live it, and share it with others.

Daily Confession

Father, I thank You that I press toward the goal for the prize
of Your upward call in Christ Jesus. I pursue excellence and therefore
I make continual forward progress.
