Behavior Tolerated Becomes Behavior Celebrated

“People who cover over their sins will not prosper. But if they confess and forsake them, they will receive mercy.”
Proverbs 28:13 (NLT)

OCTOBER 4 - “I’ll help you, Daddy,” the little girl kindly offered, tugging at the dandelions with both hands. “That’s good, Sweetheart, but you have to use this tool to get them out, see?” showing his young daughter the forked tool used for pulling weeds, “If you don’t go way, way down deep into the dirt, those old dandelions will just shoot right back up again.”

It’s a well known fact—every one of us faces problems. But how many of us are willing to deal with the roots of these problems? As in the illustration above, a weed must be pulled up by its root, or else that weed has no choice but to return. The same is true with the problems we face.

There is a specific root to every problem. The enemy, however, wants us to pull the weed without attacking the root, and doing so only exacerbates the problem. Any problem allowed to mature forces us to live with it indefinitely—we become cozily accustomed to the lifestyle that problem creates.

We see in Proverbs 28:13 how it is impossible to prosper if we tolerate sin. The very problems we tolerate become the giants that conquer us in the future. We must ask God to help us understand what we must do in order to overcome the problems we face. Satan does not give up effortlessly, but he can be defeated by those who attack the root of their problems with the Word of God.

Father, I thank You that I do not cover my sins. I confess and forsake them and I am shown mercy. I desire to walk in the abundance You have for me, and I know that tolerating any problem in my life hinders me from enjoying the abundant life.
